These four visual resume companies offer a way for job seekers to stand out  in this challenging job market. Visualize.me, Re.Vu, Kinzaa, and Brazen Careerist  all have visual resumes available for job seekers. Visualize.me is new, and features an infographic visual resume that is designed for you. All you have to do is import your job history from LinkedIn and your resume is automatically created. Re.Vu has some different resume add-ons from Visualize.me; you can have your picture on the resume, and web analytics such as page views of your resume are also offered. Kinzaa, which is currently in beta, allows you to add details about your ideal workplace. The Kinzaa resume has clean lines, and seems the closest to a traditional resume, because minimal colors and small graphics are used in the resume. Brazen Careerist, which is one of my favorite job sites on the web, has a Facebook application that lists the jobseekers Linkedin page, an infographic resume, and the career portfolio, where jobseekers can identify their job strengths in the workplace. I think visual resumes and LinkedIn profiles will replace traditional resumes in the near future.

Nice Gals Can Earn Less, According To Latest Study

by globetrotter on September 27, 2011

Especially in the South, some of us ladies were raised that becoming nice, polite, elegant young ladies was the right way to behave in life. If we would behave as ladies and gentleman, everything we wanted in life would be ours. Then, some of us woke up in our late 20′s bewildered that this simply wasn’t the case most of the time.  The men we wanted to date seemed to love the “bitchy” women we disliked intensely. At work, women we thought were outspoken and and a wee bit too assertive were promoted past us in more senior positions as work. The book, Why Men Love Bitches, was published around the same time as the book The Rules, and women began conversing with each other in hushed tones in the hallways. Nice gals everywhere were miffed to learn that our mothers, our schoolteachers, and women’s magazines had offered us the wrong advice for years. Men really do love bitches! Catering to a man’s every need and being agreeable on a date turns men off most of the time. More information just keeps emerging to prove what nice gals have had to learn the hard way. Recently, a study came out concluding nice gals also receive smaller paychecks at work. If you’re a Pollyanna, smiling all the time, agreeing with everything your boss and colleagues say, employers might not value you as an employee. They believe nice gals are less apt to negotiate effectively with the company’s clients, and thus, less of an asset to the company.  Bosses value women who get angry at work when they’re mistreated, because they know these confident women won’t hesitate to move to a competitor when offered more money.  So, speak up at work, communicate your desires in a bold, outspoken manner, and don’t ever be a doormat! Here’s the information from the study, if you’re interested.

Forbes.com is featuring an interview with Princess Ameerah, wife of Prince Alwaleed.  Before becoming a Princess, she was brought up in a middle class background.  Princess Ammeerah presents herself as a confident, reasonable, self-assured woman in the interview. The Princess speaks about her efforts to affect changes in the Saudi culture. One of the changes she’s advocating is allowing Saudi women to drive cars for the first time.  I like how she delivers her message in such a matter-of-fact manner, yet keeps a feminine, glamourous appearance at the same time.  Princess Ameerah considers her audience while conveying her message. Sometimes, as a woman, appearance and communication style is key to ensuring your viewpoint is received positively.

Brazen Careerist Advises Bloggers On TrendSpotting

by globetrotter on September 21, 2011

If you’re an entrepreneur, or aspiring entrepreneur, what’s the best way to identify a promising niche? Penelope Trunk, author of the Brazen Careerist blog, writes about the importance of trendspotting when analyzing a new business idea. She offers three tips on identifying fast-growing trends that could lead to profitable business ideas. First, it seems like the best thing to do is ignore naysayers. If  you see a potential audience that no one is targeting, there very well could be money to be made and a potential dream career for you. When people told Penelope beach volleyball wasn’t a job, she ignored them.  Turns out, you can make money from beach volleyball. People enjoy watching women in bikinis hit a large white ball across the net. Who knew? If you’re a blogging entrepreneur, Penelope suggests identifying large groups of people who haven’t been targeted by existing blogs. She found large groups of young workers who wanted to read about a new way to do your career. So, she started the Brazen Careerist blog. Later on, after analyzing research that pointed to the fast growth of homeschooling by educated moms, Penelope launched a homeschooling blog.  What’s the best way to launch something new? Do your homework. Analyze the market size and potential growth rate of your niche. Then, trust your intuition, and go for it!
